Fabric Manipulation Project

In this brief we were instructed to choose an artist and one of their paintings to be inspired by, and create a garment that represents it. We had to use 3 different materials and experiment with and implement fabric manipulations.

I chose to base my garment on Pablo Picasso ́s oil painting “The Goat ́s Skull, Bottle and Candle”. It was painted after WW2 and was inspired by the atrocities of the Korean war.

The painting focuses on symbols of death and new hope through the representation of the skull and candle. Visually the painting uses contrast with black and white colours as well as with sharp geometric shapes and soft curves.
